5 Bands to Check out at Irish Fest 2018

Since the beginning of the festival in 1981, Milwaukee Irish Fest has been excited to give audiences a musical taste of all things Irish. This year we're excited to welcome five contemporary folk & rock bands from Ireland that wouldn't sound out of place at festivals like Bonnaroo or Eaux Claires, but still retain their Irish roots at the core of their music.

1. The Coronas

Indie, Pop-Rock ~ Originated in Dublin, Ireland

Similar Artists

Snow Patrol | Arctic Monkeys

The Washington Times said The Coronas has been 'Dublin's greatest rock-n-roll secret for a decade." They're an indie-rock band from Ireland with 5 critically-acclaimed albums (most recent album went straight to number one on the Irish Charts) and multiple number one singles on the Irish Charts.

2. Shreem

Celtic Remixing ~ Halifax, Nova Scotia

Similar Artists

Afro Celt Sound System | Martyn Bennett

Shreem breathes new life into traditional Celtic music, infusing it with a fresh, modern feel - he belnds Celtic, electronic percussion and hip hop with powerful melodies. He's a part of this year's Nova Scotia: Celtic Heart of North America showcase. Catch his Celtic remixing at Irish Fest! You might even hear some reggae, and other genres infused in his performances!

3. Seo Linn

Contemporary Irish / Irish language advocates ~ Ireland

Similar Artists

Brave Giant | Walking On cars

Seo Linn are an energetic and fun youthful band that perform powerful original tunes and put their own unique twists on contemporary songs, like Ed Sheeran's "Castle on the Hill" by singing them in their native (Gaelic) Irish language.

4. Doolin'

Irish Traditional music with a French twist ~ France

Similar Artists

Alison Brown | John Doyle

Doolin' is one of the most innovative bands on the Irish music scene. French in origin, this sextet brings a fresh approach to Irish music by combining instrumentals, vocals, and original compositions in a resolutely modern style. Their arrangements at times even take inspiration from pop-rock, folk, jazz, funk and rap, to emit great energy and fun!

5. Jiggy

World Music with Irish Traditional at the core ~ Ireland

Similar Artists

Afro Celt Sound System

Jiggy continue the tradition of their musical ancestors while bringing a whole new excotic flavor to the table; more of a collective than an orthodox band, Jiggy's mercurial line-up mixes and melds Irish traditional music, world rhythms and cutting-edge dance grooves. Their 'Silent Pace' music video, which celebrates global togetherness through dance, has clocked up more than 22 million views on Facebook alone and their debut album went to Number 1 on the World Music Charts in the United States, Ireland, Canada, France, Australia, Poland and the UK.
