Join members of the Black and Irish team (based in Dublin, Ireland) as they discuss the work they are doing around raising awareness of the black and mixed race experience and how they are working to bring their community together. They will discuss their work in the areas of Advocacy, Community and Education and their hopes and dreams for the future of Ireland.
Leon Diop is a mixed-race man from Tallaght, Dublin. He is the Co-Founder & CEO of Black and Irish. He attended Maynooth University where he received a degree in psychology and also served as Students' Union president for two years. In 2020, he founded the organization Black and Irish alongside two friends which is now working on behalf of the black community in Ireland.
Pierre Yimbog is 27, originally from Cameroon and has grown up and lived in Dublin most of his life. He graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Law from DIT, and stayed on in college to become Vice President for Education and President for DIT Students’ Union, and the first President of Technological University Dublin Students’ Union. He joined Black & Irish soon after it was launched in June 2020, and oversees the governance, legal and compliance across the organization. Pierre is currently undertaking a Masters in Corporate Governance at the University of Law and works as Community Engagement Executive for Engineers Ireland.
Briana Fitzsimons grew up in Yonkers, NY, USA and has lived in Ireland since 2017. She has been a secondary school teacher for 12 years and holds degrees in English, Creative Writing, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Briana joined the Black and Irish team in 2021 and has been working to make schools across the country more inclusive for all students ever since. One of her main goals is to empower teachers and young people with the tools they need to make sure that everyone is seen and heard and feels a sense of belonging in all educational spaces in Ireland. She lives in Co. Kildare with her partner and two children and is proud to call Ireland home.
