The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick, and Milwaukee Irish Fest are proud to announce the launch of two annual student travel/performance/research awards.
The Irish World Academy at Milwaukee Irish Fest student awards offer two traditional musicians/singers/dancers registered at the Irish World Academy the opportunity to travel to take part in Milwaukee Irish Fest. Milwaukee Irish Fest is the largest Irish festival in North America and in 2017 is celebrating its 37th anniversary. Awardees will attend the festival over a 10-day period and have the opportunity to engage in the event in a variety of ways, including teaching and working at the Milwaukee Irish Fest Summer School, engaging in the Ward Irish Music Archive and performances at Milwaukee Irish Fest.
The two students are Kate Heneghan and Edel McLaughlin. Kate is from Castlebar, Co. Mayo Ireland and plays fiddle, harp, guitar and piano and is a 3 time All-Ireland champion.
Edel is from Burnfoot, Inishowen, Co. Donegal Ireland and is an All-Ireland champion on Piano and on Piano Accordion.
Milwaukee Irish Fest is proud to have Kate & Edel as our inaugural award winners with the partnership with The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick.
