Founded in 1785, the Royal Irish Academy has been at the forefront of recognising and fostering research at the highest level on an all-island basis, with a remarkable history of distinguished members. This talk by the President of the RIA, Professor Daniel Carey, describes the work of the Academy and its unique research projects, ranging from the Dictionary of Irish Biography to the Irish Historic Towns Atlas, ARINS (Analysing and Researching Ireland North and South), our dictionaries of Irish and Latin from Celtic sources, and beyond.
